Wilmot will again walk to mark World Suicide Prevention Day on Sept. 10. Participants at this solemn event can light a candle to remember those who have died, all with the goal of providing hope to people who struggle with thoughts of suicide and for people who have lost a loved ones.

This event is open to all. The evening will conclude with an outdoor time of reflection and light refreshments.

The event started last year with participation from many local organizations: Interfaith Community Counselling Centre, Suicide Awareness Wilmot and Wellesley, the Wilmot Family Resource Centre, the Waterloo Region Suicide Prevention Council, and Canadian Mental Health Association's Waterloo-Wellington chapter.

This year, the suicide prevention walk returns at a new location; it will start by the splash pad outside the Wilmot Rec Complex on Nafziger Road, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Saturday.
